I rented a car at Payless in Austin. When I picked up the car, the windows did not work and the radio did not work properly. I turned around to return the car and John Pelum made me go to the end of the line!! I called customer service and had to wait over 10 minutes for a "customer care" operator. Kathy Decosta was not able to help me (fill out a complaint form). I asked for the manager...she said he was not working at the time...his name was George (no last name).

Payless Car Rental in Pretoria, Gauteng - Customer NO SERVICE - Nobody answers the Phone

I rented a car on 2/18/16 from Oakland Payless (It is located outside I guess they don't the the $ for a desk inside) I rented with the help of Southwest when I booked my travel (First Mistake) I had to wait at least 35 minutes to get my car. It was basically clean and no problems, but when I returned the counter (again) was very busy and no one being attended to in any kind of timely manner. The young lady at the counter took my keys and said please give me the information (i.e. Mileage and Gas) which I had already so I gave it to her. When I returned home, I realized that I didn't have my overnight bag. I looked through everything (I didn't take much with me) and I called my hotel. No one found anything. I attempted to contact the Payless @ Oakland at 510-638-1000. An automated voice gives you different choices and "Press #5 for Lost and Found". Excellent, I'm not the only one who left something in their car. I waited for 15-20 minutes with the phone ringing and then I was hung up upon. I tried back (I though I had left my medication in there) I was concerned. Finally after the entire weekend of trying to get someone, I got in touch with someone on Monday afternoon who indicated that there was a black Calvin Klein overnight bag found, but they apparently "didn't write down the car they found it in." Since it didn't have medication in it, they said it wasn't mine. During the weekend, I did find my medication that I conveniently left in another item (but did it really matter??) Yes, to them it wasn't mine. I asked to take a photo and send it to me and I'll let them know if it is or isn't mine. I DON'T want someone else's dirty brush etc., Anyway, today is Thursday and I have been trying on a regular basis to speak to SOMEONE to no avail. Finally, I was able to get in touch with someone who said I needed to call the Lost and Found counter and gave me a number that was the number to BUDGET rent a car in Oakland. Needless to say, now I'm fuming. I finally get in touch with someone and they say, "Not my Job." and hand me off to a competitor? I don't know who hires at Payless, but they are definitely NOT the smartest rocks in the shed. I will NEVER work with them again unless they are the ONLY company left. Then maybe I'll take public transportation

This company is criminal. Upfront, we changed our reservation from 5 to 3 days. They made us pay for all 5, and charged us an early return fee for BOTH days we didn't use the car on top of that. VERY RUDE people. Never shop here.

Payless Car Rental in Fort Myers, Florida - INSURANCE FRAUD AND HIGH PRESSURE SALES in Indianapolis

I rented a car through Payless during my flight from Fort Myers to Indianapolis a month ago. I fell down the escalator and was unable to pick the car up at my assigned time. I called Payless and the gentleman who answered said not to worry I had 24 hours. When I got to Payless on Washington Street in Indianapolis I was told I no longer had a reservation. They had let my car go since I didn't show up. I explained I had called and what I was told, and the reason I couldn't show up. The lady was very nice, polite, and "just want me to be happy" so she supposedly upgraded me (free) and I signed paperwork saying I didn't want insurance. Guess what. When I picked up the Kia upgrade I had to pay $164 for less than 2 day rental. YUP! They had signed me up for insurance and blamed me for not seeing it on my signature line. They are right. I should have second guessed absolutely everything she told me, since not only did she sign me up for insurance BUT SHE CHARGED ME FOR MY FREE UPGRADE!

Internet arranged a rental car in San Diego. Supposed to get a Nissan versa, counter boy says all u get is a Chevy sonic, then he starts pressuring me to buy insurance, I decline, then he says if I drive out of a 3 county area it's .35 a mile and the car has GPS to track, so he rings me up for an extra $200 as I'm going up the coast. I have rented many times from many companies . these guys bury the screw job in the details. when I return the car the guy says these cars don't have GPS. total screw job. stay away from these people

Payless Car Rental - Knoxville Local Renter Scam

If you are a local renter in the Knoxville area, Payless ASSUMES you are going to trash the car and, after you get to the airport location, they demand a utility bill proving residency (I called prior to coming down and spoke with their rep, who said nothing about their "policy"). They make you pay a minimum $11 daily charge for $3,000 insurance coverage if you cannot provide this proof. This is Appalachia, and a scam like this makes you want to put a rock through the windshield, doesn't it? That costs a lot less than the $3,000 I am covered for. One scam begets another… bad business.

Payless Car Rental - Car Rental Review from Lincoln Park, Michigan

This was the worst car rental experience of my life! The reservation through southwest.com quoted me $278.00. Payless was the cheapest rate and ended up being the worst rate. $518.00 was what i was charged and they sent my receipt via email sneaking me the overcharge. They lied and said that the 13$ a day insurance coverage would total $278.00 for two weeks. Also they discriminate against handicapped. Their shuttle bus did not accomodate my disabled mother so we had to call a cab and ended up paying for it. Worst service ever. Choose a big name like enterprise or budget. They are scammers.

This company is dedicated to forcing customers to buy insurance when it is not necessary to have it. After talking over ten minutes with the renter told us that we could not rent a car without insurance, and how many people we had also got in a hurry to rent the car and we left deceived. Finally I rent because I needed and there was more car companies at that time, when I went to take back the car, I ask about insurance and my surprise was that it was not necessary. After several complaints they responded and they said it was not his fault if an agent had cheated me. So watch out for this company to exploit of foreign customers

I was promised an upgrade at no extra charge. But when I looked at my bank account I was charged for the upgrade. Sky Harbor has people working there that will rip you off(Dave) biggest mistake I made not going to an established rental company.
