Payless Car Rental - Car Rental Review from Chatfield, Minnesota

The agents are *** men! When he brought out the papers for me to sign it was 3 times the amount I was quoted due to the added insurance (which is a whole other scam in itself) When I asked for my quoted price and told him I don't need the insurance because I was covered by my own...he silently stepped in the back room and said "yes. That 330 isn't the 110 you were quoted sign and and initial in these areas and your all square" I hesently did because of all the fine print. He said I had to. I was looking forward to my vacation so I took his word. In the end I was still charged 250 because I signed in a place he told me I had to which was for comprehensive coverage...which I verbally declined. After 4 days gone calls and many e-mails they said I was basically SOL. They even claim that the video and audio shows I wanted insurance. My girlfriend witnessed me saying I didn't. Amazingly, Payless will not send me this proof of audio and video. I'm am looking for other people who have been conned in this same matter so we can get a lawsuit against these criminals. Please comment if you have so we can set this business back as they did to us. Thank you.

I prepaid for a rental car on line with payless car rental in Atlanta, GA when I went to pick up the car the lady said they would not us my coverage from American Express and I would have to pay $500 dollars more to get the car. I have rented from them in the past using my coverage from American Express with no problems, I even had American Express on the phone and the lady still would not accept it. I went to Alamo/Nations right next door and they were AWESOME!! no problems at all... when I contacted the payless no customer service they said they will open a ticket but when I called back after not getting anything from them they said the same thing final I got a response saying since I failed to pick up the car then it was my problem and no refund. Payless Car Rental in Winter Springs, Florida - Inifficient rude clerk

Firstly the desk clerk told me my insurance had expired, the allstate card stated effective 12/14/2014. I explained that effective meant started/ begins. Guess he got insulted. Then he ran my Amex and said the card was declined. I said that could not be, then I phoned AMEX, they told me no charge was swiped from Payless, AMEX then gave me a number to give them to call, as the clerk said his system does not allow to swipe a card twice. He then told me he was not allowed to call Amex. Finally he told me all I did was put them (him) down (I guess when I asked him if he knew what effective meant), followed by the fact he no longer wanted to do business with me and if I didn't leave the property he would have me removed. My conclusion, it was near 5:00 P.M. closing time and he wanted to go home. What a place of business.

Payless Car Rental - Car Rental Review from Atlanta, Georgia

Bait and switch scammers! Beware! Worse than used car salesman. I prepaid for an SUV on the payless website, because my kids and I were going up to lake tahoe to ski (cost was $660 instead of $830 for 6 days if i prepaid in advance so of course I prepaid) and i wanted a safe vehicle in the snow and ice. Cost of SUV was 5xs the cost of regular full size sedan. When i went to pick up car, the guy at the Payless counter said that there were no four-wheel-drive SUVs available unless I was willing to pay an additional $150 per day (!!!) for an upgrade. He said that there were no guarantees that I would get a four-wheel-drive when I rented the SUV online and that he could only give me a 2 Wheel, rear wheel drive SUV for the price I paid. When I refused to pay the additional $150 per day, he said he would call his manager to find out "what he could do for us". He walked away to "Call his manager" and then came back and told us that his manager did not answer the telephone, but he could do us a favor and give us the four-wheel-drive SUV for only an additional $25.99 per day. At that point, I knew he was trying to scam me so I refuse to pay a penny more and just asked for SUV that I had rented, even if it was a 2 Wheel Dr., rear wheel drive SUV. He proceeded to tell me that a big snowstorm was coming in and that we may not even be able to drive up the pass with a 2 Wheel Dr. SUV. Again, I told him to just give me the car that I paid for. Then he said that if we got stuck in the snow, it would cost a lot of money for roadside assistance. Again i told him to just give me the SUV i paid for, even if it was a rear 2WD. I would rather pay for chains at the Costco a few blocks away then to give this scammer a penny more of my money. After I signed all of the paperwork, he told me that he was giving me the four-wheel-drive SUV at no extra charge. I doubt there was a 2 wheel, rear wheel drive SUV to begin with. Roads were clear and dry during our entire trip and no sign of snowstorm. What Payless is doing ought to be considered fraud and illegal. I felt dirty after dealing with them. I only wished I had videotaped this guy's BS with my cell phone. May be the next customer payless tries to scam will be smart enough to do so.

Payless Car Rental - Car Rental Review from Dewitt, Michigan

Terrible experience, pure bait and switch for the rental at the DTW location. Reserved a SUV a week prior, they offered one of two compact cars at the same rate (the only vehicles they had in stock). No apology, explanation, or advanced warning of the lack of an SUV in stock. Waste of time and money, pay a bit more for a reliable rental company. Do not expect to receive what you reserve/pay for with Payless Car Rentals. Will never go back and strongly advise everyone else to do the same.
