We rented a car with Payless thru a third party and, despite having the reservation, they pretended that we did not pay for insurance and they more than tripled the cost. A total con job and I will never use this company again.

Payless Car Rental - Broken down on side of road for 4 hours!

I rented a "car" from Payless from Friday morning 12/8 - Monday morning 12/11. I had a horrible experience with them and will never rent from them again! When I got to the RDU counter to pick up my reservation, nobody was there. Eventually, the agent for Avis showed up at her counter in the same rental terminal. She took care of her Avis renters and then came over to help me. She told me that the Payless person didn't show up that morning. I was issued a Mazda after an hour wait and drove toward my important business meeting in Greensboro. About 20 miles down the road the car started to overheat and just about every warning light on the dash came on indicating major engine failure. I pulled into a gas station parking lot and called the toll free customer service number. I gave them my exact address and asked for another car right away because I had a business appointment that I flew up to attend that was important. She passed the baton to the station manager, who had not come in to work that day, and he passed the baton to a young lady who was supposed to call me when she was on the way. These calls were repeated several times with no call backs until the lady bringing me the car said she was lost and could not find me. Turns out she went 50 miles north of where I was!! I had to give the address to her and her "manager" and "customer service" several times!! Finally, 4 hours later after sitting in a cold car (it was snowing and 36 degrees out) the lady showed up with many apologies. I couldn't be mad with her since she was the messenger. The company caused me to lose income by missing my business meeting and has not contacted me once since then to offer apologies or ask how I affected by their "Care Less" approach to car rentals. The car they delivered was much better than the broken down wreck they first issued me. I was only 20 minutes west of the airport and it took them 4 hours to get a replacement car to me even though I had stressed that I could not be late or miss the business appointment I had that day. Payless Car Rental - Worst car rental company!!!

Details
Shuttle brought us to a site at mlps near Humphtey. Car was rediculously overpriced ($95 per day for a Ford Fusion). They included airport fees, even though we were miles from the terminal. Rental car was only 1/2 full of gas. They gave us a Nissan in exchange - it reeked of cigar and cigarette smoke after the heater was on and we were down the road. Car had not been started, frost on all surfaces, not prepped at all prior to pickup. This is a junior league, rip off operation!!!

Car did not start day 4 of 4 day rental. Billed credit card $564. The estimate was $202. Charged towing and additional day in addition to other added fees. 30 days later attempting to charge $60 and $55.14 with no explanation. Customer serviCe opens ticket number then closes with no contact. Rented from another company day 4 for another $212 because Payless could not provide another car where I was.

today 12/02/2017 I wanted to order-slash - pay for/ buy a product "the 60s " CD,,,, from Time/ Life 30 minute info commercial on NBC.... I called the 1-800-860-4420 ph #,,,, . credit card in hand.......Faith,, the cust. service rep. told me that FREE shipping (advertised on TV), was NOT available in my zip code 33470 (Palm Beach county, FL). and she apologized... BECAUSE IT WAS ALSO NOT available in my sisters zip, 63301 ( suburb of St. Louis ,MO) and NOT available in my girlfriend's sister's St. Marys, Georgia zip.....( or all, pretty much, of the U.S.A). I OFFERED TO PAY FOR SHIPPING, BUT TIME LIFE STILL WOULD NOT SHIP IT !!!! WHAT COMPANY DOES NOT WANT TO SELL IT'S PRODUCT ?...... My Background, as a typical human being,,,,, .. I am 63 y.o., middle class guy, self employed for 30+ years, divorced, 750+ Credit Score, raised 1 son ( with 3.8 grad avg.,and in Air Force, balanced and doing fine--- ok - enough !!! ha,ha....- I am a normal/typical adult with a normal child ) Anyway, after calling Customer Service Line, 1-866-483-1585 Could not order the CD, per Zip code issue, AGAIN ! ...(Huh?) I guess buying the Time/Life product, thru Time/Life's SUB-contractor, Star Vista Entertainment was NOT POSSIBLE ... so, the question becomes... WHY WOULD A COMPANY... NOT.. !.. TAKE MY MONEY ????... !!!!!.. perhaps its some sort of money laundering scheme.... I offer to buy their product. They dont/wont sell it.

Payless Car Rental in Las Vegas, Nevada - Car would not start day four. Quoted $212. Charged $564.

Car would not start on last day of 4 day rental, a Saturday. Automated run around calling trying to get help with a replacement . Transferred to busy signals, terrible connections out of the country, bad information all around. Their third party tow company charged me the fee. Had to rent from different company on day 4, charging one way rates. Billed credit card $564 when quoted $212. Had car 3 days. My total cost for 4 days including other car needed to get to the airtport was $781. 3 Complaints were filed on website. Responded once stating the complaint was closed. Weeks later from that rental location employee told me the manager was coming to phone refusing to give me any other number, then transferred me to someones voicemail. A final response was offer to reimburse $48.

They told my wife her car wasn't available and she must get insurance, Lie, lie, lie. This company is great at bait and switch as well as selling you unnecessary insurance and claiming your own insurance company won't cover it! Originally reserved an intermediate car and agent told wife a VW bug was an intermediate car when it was actually a compact - lie after lie after lie. Wife went back and they couldn't give her what she originally reserved because she signed and there was nothing they could do. So a $154 rental turned into a $350 rental?!?! Oh but wait, after threatening to turn the car back in, they discounted the rental to $245. I wish I was there to deal with these liars, unfortunately I wasn't but they will never get my money again. DO NOT USE DISHONEST UNETHICAL PAYLESS CAR RENTALS EVER!!

Payless at Cancun. Car was crap and they made bogus damage claims. Stay away!! The car was a death trap in the rain at night, no visibility. The people who worked there are trained crooks who make money by making you pay for non existent damage. It is in a remote area, not at the airport. You could lose your life trying to get there. You are captive once you return the car since it is a long way from the airport and they will refuse to shuttle you there. They are a bunch of crooks and need to be put out of business.

Payless Car Rental - Trying to charge credit card more money

I was told I was getting an upgrade. I rented a midsize car and that is what I got EXCEPT it was shabby inside and tons of marks all over the car. I returned it on time (1 day earlier) the attendant got into the car turned the car on inspected the inside and then the outside. It was 92 degrees mid day when I returned the car. About 2 weeks later they sent me a bill $150 dollars claiming their were spots on their seats and a foul odor. They kept trying to charge my credit card. I called the company and said really--in 92 degree heat don't you think the girl would have smelled a problem while sitting in the car??? They told me customer service would call me back They never did. I have called them numerous times and not follow up. They continue to try to bill my card. I wrote to the better business bureau and filed a complaing.
