Details
I rented a car from payless San Diego airport location and they NEVER charged me. Now they are trying to charge me 750 for their mistake. And the manager is extremely rude. Not to mention that I've had to get a jump 3 times. I wouldn't advise anyone to rent a car from there.

I would not recommend this company to anyone. The customer service is below average and they advertise false quotes. They "quote" you a good price and charge you double or more. I recently rented a car from Payless and they gave me a quote of $149.99 for 7 days this was supposed to be including everything. I go and get the vehicle and they end up charging me almost $450.00. I decided I only needed it for one day and they still charged me $294.43. They came up with all of these non refundable phantom charges. I disputed the charges and they won't even try to help me or refund even a portion of the money. They're crooks and should be shut down for continuously presenting deceptive quotes. I drove the car about 10-15miles and returned as I picked it up with a full tank of gas. DO NOT rent from these scam artists.

Got charged $170 more than expected, waited out in the cold, waited in line, then was hung up on by customer service people and talked down to by a supervisor, worst customer service experience ever! I will never use this company again.

I have rented from this company over a dozen times, customer service always sucks but it is cheapest so was willing to do it again. SO. booked ahead, prepaid $305.00 billed and cleared my credit card, got to the counter, was assigned a SUV, filled out all the documents and then the guys says he can not rent to me. doesn't know why but is willing to re-do the reservation under my husbands name.... however it is now considerably higher cost because we are renting at the last minute with no advance reservation... and it is the day before thanksgiving so rentals are at a premium! but lucky for us he has an SUV just like we wanted available since the other reservation did not work out....OH, and did i mention, he can not refund or use any of the prepaid amount (that will have to be handled by the corp office but they are closed for the holiday)... so i'm sure you are getting how this worked.. now we are desperate! so close to $1000.00 later... with the same rental I pre-booked... a lot of frustration, irritation, truly pissed off... and then I get to look forward to dealing with the corp office to attempt to get the original billed cost refunded.. called corp they were as rude and difficult as the guy at the counter. THESE PEOPLE CAN TOTALLY RUIN A FAMILY TRIP AND NOT CARE. I can not imagine what would have happened if my husband hadn't been traveling with me this time and I had flown into the airport..I would have literally been stranded. NEVER AGAIN!

Payless Car Rental - Beware Payless Kansas City Airport!

After stating that I did not, under any circumstances, want any additional insurance coverage, the agent told me to sign a piece of paper that, she said, declined all insurance coverage. Given our conversation and the fact that I am not a cynic, I signed it. Guess what? She lied. What she had actually had me sign is the contract adding more insurance! When I discovered this upon returning the car, I reminded her that I didn't want any extra coverage. "Remember our conversation?" All she did was point to the paper with my signature. Yes, I should have read the small print before signing, but I just couldn't believe she would be so deliberate in her deceit. I called the company several times trying to get them to *** the insurance charge, which was nearly half of the contract total cost, btw, but they said they couldn't reverse an insurance charge. So, that's how they make their money. They advertise a low base rate, hook you in, and then practice deceit. Nice business model, Payless. Never again!

Payless Car Rental Bad Experience

We flew into Denver for my father's funeral on November 8, 2016. I found out after we landed that we needed to rent a car. I opened the Southwest app, chose Payless because of the cost $14.91/day for an economy car and the fact that they are a partner of Southwest Rapid Rewards. When we got to the counter, the employee asked why we were in town. When I told him why, and then discovered I had accidentally noted a 2:00 PM return. Our return flight did not leave until 9:30 PM. He said he would see what he could do to remedy that. When I saw that the per hour charge was $4.95, we made it for 3 days. The employee asked if there would be a second driver and I indicated my husband would be, allowing me to ride with my stepmother to the cemetery. He did not verbally tell me that was an extra $13/day plus $6/day for Roadside Trip Protection. He only told me that since there was another driver, I had to waive all additional coverage. Our bill was $80 more than I had anticipated since it appears that an additional $20 in fees was also added. When I questioned it, an employee inside said, "Well, you signed the contract." Yes, I signed it. Yes, I was distraught due to the reason for our visit. No, I will not use them again.

11/3/16 - Put your inside counter agents like JUAN through extensive Customer Service training. He was very rude, tried to over charge us with $10 in "extra taxes". In an attempt to upsell us, he claimed the economy car we reserved online was "an underpowered 2 door hatchback with no power anything that was likely unsafe to drive on the highway". We called the fast talking bs spewing counter jockey's bluff and stayed with what we reserved. What we subsiquently found outside was quite the contrary. The car we were put in to by the super friendly and professional lot staff was wonderful! The outside staff were great on our return check in as well. Unfortunately, the first face to face interaction with your company (JUAN) makes it unlikely that we'll use your firm again. Looking at reviews online, it appears that others have had similar experiences. Understandably it must be hard to get quality people to work late night shifts, but your clientele deserve better. If upper management is o.k. with getting no repeat business or referrals, then keep your practices and standards status quo.
