After stating that I did not, under any circumstances, want any additional insurance coverage, the agent told me to sign a piece of paper that, she said, declined all insurance coverage. Given our conversation and the fact that I am not a cynic, I signed it.

Guess what? She lied. What she had actually had me sign is the contract adding more insurance! When I discovered this upon returning the car, I reminded her that I didn't want any extra coverage.

"Remember our conversation?" All she did was point to the paper with my signature. Yes, I should have read the small print before signing, but I just couldn't believe she would be so deliberate in her deceit. I called the company several times trying to get them to *** the insurance charge, which was nearly half of the contract total cost, btw, but they said they couldn't reverse an insurance charge. So, that's how they make their money.

They advertise a low base rate, hook you in, and then practice deceit.

Nice business model, Payless. Never again!
