Rented from them. Moved without telling me when returning the rental. Charged 2.5 times the rate when reserved. Left me haning at Orlando airport when they were off airport when I rented the vehicle. Got stuck with a $120 taxi because Uber driver would not come to airport.

Payless Car Rental - Shady Charges - READ your contract before you leave

NO ONE can help you at the desk. They make you call a number and then that person opens a ticket and then you get an email like below: (harder to look someone in the face and take their money unwillingly, but easy to do via email.) SHADY. The guest states that she got charged for roadside service which she had declined. The agent at the counter agreed that this was not signed for but could not give her a refund because the contract was closed. The guest is requesting a refund. Wed, Dec 28 2016 10:03am - Melanie - Executive Desk Dear Janet B, Payless Roadside Safety Plan (RSP) is not insurance and is not mandatory. When a renter purchases the RSP product, he or she is provided the following roadside assistance services at no additional cost. When you purchase our Roadside Service Plan (RSP) we waive all, or a portion of, the cost of a roadside assistance service call up to the amount of $125.00 per incident. Benefits include: - Emergency road service towing - Winching - Jump start - Flat tire change - Lockout service - Emergency fuel delivery Prohibited use of the vehicle will void this option RSP is authorized by the renter, and that decision is noted on the rental agreement when the customer signs for the coverage. You are generally asked to note certain areas of a contract once you verbally confirm whether you would like the coverage or not. Clearly not what happened here and totally on me for not scouring said agreement. I never accept it because I carry it on my own. While totally legal just a bit shady. Fail.

I will never rent from these people again. They charge you all these fees that are not listed when you reserve the car. When you ask them about it, they try to side step and not answer the questions. At DFW they charge an extra $5.99/day. So they may be cheap, initially...but end up costing more in the long run. I was told that every rental company at the aiport charges this....found out this was a LIE. Then I turned in the car a day early, and they still charged me for a full day. So I asked to keep it for the day I was charged, I was told since I brought it in already, I could not. The reservarion stated $128. When I picked up the car, it miraculously jumped to $178! With no real explanation! This is a very dishonest company. Stay away from them!

I rented a car from payless San Diego airport location and they NEVER charged me. Now they are trying to charge me 750 for their mistake. And the manager is extremely rude. Not to mention that I've had to get a jump 3 times. I wouldn't advise anyone to rent a car from there.

I would not recommend this company to anyone. The customer service is below average and they advertise false quotes. They "quote" you a good price and charge you double or more. I recently rented a car from Payless and they gave me a quote of $149.99 for 7 days this was supposed to be including everything. I go and get the vehicle and they end up charging me almost $450.00. I decided I only needed it for one day and they still charged me $294.43. They came up with all of these non refundable phantom charges. I disputed the charges and they won't even try to help me or refund even a portion of the money. They're crooks and should be shut down for continuously presenting deceptive quotes. I drove the car about 10-15miles and returned as I picked it up with a full tank of gas. DO NOT rent from these scam artists.

I have rented from this company over a dozen times, customer service always sucks but it is cheapest so was willing to do it again. SO. booked ahead, prepaid $305.00 billed and cleared my credit card, got to the counter, was assigned a SUV, filled out all the documents and then the guys says he can not rent to me. doesn't know why but is willing to re-do the reservation under my husbands name.... however it is now considerably higher cost because we are renting at the last minute with no advance reservation... and it is the day before thanksgiving so rentals are at a premium! but lucky for us he has an SUV just like we wanted available since the other reservation did not work out....OH, and did i mention, he can not refund or use any of the prepaid amount (that will have to be handled by the corp office but they are closed for the holiday)... so i'm sure you are getting how this worked.. now we are desperate! so close to $1000.00 later... with the same rental I pre-booked... a lot of frustration, irritation, truly pissed off... and then I get to look forward to dealing with the corp office to attempt to get the original billed cost refunded.. called corp they were as rude and difficult as the guy at the counter. THESE PEOPLE CAN TOTALLY RUIN A FAMILY TRIP AND NOT CARE. I can not imagine what would have happened if my husband hadn't been traveling with me this time and I had flown into the airport..I would have literally been stranded. NEVER AGAIN!
