This car rental company is a scam!!!! My husband rented a car from Payless car rental online.

We thought we were getting a deal on a compact car for 10 days. The total price on the rental vehicle was a total of $160.00 dollars. When we got to San Juan's Payless car rental they wanted us to pay an additional $130.00 for car insurance. Well we fell into this *** scam even though we already had insurance from our vehicles back home.

This was absolutely ridiculous i thought. We called our insurances back home and sure enough we were covered in Puerto Rico. We had our insurance fax them our policy #'s along with other information and they still wanted to charge us $300.00. We had them cancel our transaction and walked out. Fortunately we were able to rent a car at another car rental using our insurance policies.

They suck!!!!!!

I'm sorry u were irresponsible and couldn't call the company up to see what documents the needed. We had a decent service.

No problems. We called them up on what to bring and what proof they needed. It's not the United states.

It's a discount company, so what do u expect. This review just annoyed me because it's not their fault u didn't bring your proper insurance policy.

You must be an employee... I've worked for Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, and a few small rental places and I've never seen any of them ask for a policy...

I wonder if they also need my birth certificate. By the way Puerto Rico is not a foreign country. The road laws are exactly the same.. I was born there and live in the US now.

Believe me it's a scam... You must be employee of the month!!!

I just rented a car from this 'payless car rental' in San Juan , they are probably the rudest people I have ever had to deal with!!! They tried to pull the insurance thing on me and they also told me that we can't drive on the toll road unless we paid them extra!

I asked for simple directions to my hotel and the guy tells me ' I don't know how to get there'.... How *** does this guy think people are. It's a small island and he has never gone 30 minutes from his work!!!

Come on!!!! I will never rent from them again!!!

If you do not purchase Collision Damage Waiver, you are responsible for all damage to the rental vehicle. If you purchase and pay for Collision Damage Waiver, we will waive all, or a portion of, our right to collect from you for damage to the rented vehicle caused by collision or upset. The amount of your responsibility may vary according to the type of vehicle you rent.

Even if you purchase Collision Damage Waiver we will not waive our right to collect for comprehensive losses such as fire, theft, vandalism, flood, hail, or acts of God. In addition there are other exclusions from Collision Damage Waiver, such as causing damage to the rented vehicle while intoxicated, racing or by your willful or intentional actions. Please read paragraph 5 of the Rental Agreement for a complete list of exclusions.

CDW is optional only when presenting a major credit card that extends rental car CDW protection to Puerto Rico or if the renter provides written proof of auto liability and physical damage insurance coverage extended to Puerto Rico. All credit card coverage and insurances are subject to verification and acceptance at rental counter. If neither stipulation is met, and optional coverage is not purchased, we can elect not to rent to you.

I know what your talking about. These people are nothing but theives.

There employees having grabby hands and love to take belongings inside vehicles during inspection when your returning the vehicle.

They also overcharge and will refuse to take 3rd party insurance even thou its valid and covers the rental and their website says they take it. DONT RENT from them unless you want your belongings to be stolen and pay more than what they quote.

Dear Alytor,

This is of course, a way for the employee to make his commission. I'm surprised you did not do your own research on the matter, so as to be informed once you got there. I do believe had you been more persistent in the matter you would have been able to get the coverages removed.
